FHT- Accredited Pregnancy Massage Course
CPD points – 10

A very full two-day course teaching you about pregnancy and safe use of massage at different stages.

We are very proud of our 2-day pregnancy massage course.  We want you to feel very confident about treating pregnant clients and we use the two days to look at the theory of pregnancy, including pathologies, as well as the practical elements of performing the massage.

We have found in our own practice in Gloucestershire that pregnant clients seek out massage therapists that have specialist training and have a good knowledge of their situation.  If the pregnant client is struggling with headaches, constipation, a low-laying placenta, pelvic girdle instability or aches and pains it is good to know that the therapist understands why this could be and what they can do to help.  Having faith in a knowledgeable therapist who knows when to refer to a medical practitioner and when to avoid massage is also key. This training will help you to be that therapist!

Our FHT-Accredited pregnancy massage course in Cheltenham will teach you about:

  • benefits of massage in pregnancy and labour
  • contra-indications – when to avoid treatment in pregnancy and how to modify
  • understanding when to refer the pregnant client to a medical professional
  • in-depth information about pathologies common in pregnancy
  • pregnancy trimesters, how the pregnant body can change and what this means to the mother and the massage therapist
  • baby positioning
  • how to position a pregnant client comfortably, providing options to the client
  • uses of different equipment
  • how to provide a full body massage to a pregnant client, including abdominal work
  • using and adapting a variety of massage techniques
  • exploring pressure of movements and what we think might ‘hurt’ the client
  • providing a massage in pregnancy for relaxation and muscle-tension relief
  • appropriate choices of oils , including some pre-blended aromatherapy oils
  • considering the use of massage during labour and exploring the limitations
  • how to really help a pregnant client who feels uncomfortable, so they want to keep coming back for more!
