Indian Head Massage is a really popular treatment in 2024 as it provides a great opportunity to ease tension in the upper back, shoulders, neck, face and arms.
At our sister company, Cheltenham Reflexology and Massage, we saw a huge rise in enquiries about Indian Head Massage treatments post Covid. And now, people continue to struggle with tension in their upper body, as they either work from home, or in the office, spending hours sat at a computer screen.
There are still misconceptions about Indian Head Massage (IHM) and we aim to set the record straight at our Cheltenham training course. There are still people who believe IHM is a scalp rub, but it is so much more than this! An IHM treatment can last for 30-60 mins, depending on how you would like to market it. We have also provided Indian Head taster treatments, where we visit a company organisation and provide 20 minute seated massage treatments to their staff, for wellbeing events.
An Indian Head Massage can include the following:
- massage to the upper back, including around the shoulder blades and along the spine, to help with upper body mobility
- massage to the neck to decrease tension and improve movement
- massage to the arms and hands (if required) to extend the tension relief, aid muscles feeding into the shoulders and neck
- massage to the scalp to decrease tension, reduce headaches and improve blood flow
- massage to the face to aid sinus drainage, jaw, and other tense areas
When you train in Indian Head Massage at Cheltenham School of Complementary Therapy & Beauty, we teach you seated massage over clothes and with oil, over the skin. We know that you might want to take this new skill to public events or into the corporate world and so ‘having a go’ at massage over clothing is important. We focus the majority of our time at the IHM training course using oil against the skin, as this is generally the most therapeutic approach.
Indian Head Massage is a therapeutic treatment that provides a great add-on to any service menu. The IHM training course can also be a great place to start for beginners, as it requires less educational training than full body massage courses.
